Lucy Arigho's first encounter with Greg Millar is far from promising, but she soon realises he possesses a charm that is impossible to resist. Just eight whirlwind weeks after their first meeting, level-headed career girl Lucy is seriously considering his pleas to marry him and asking herself if she could really be stepmother material.
But before Lucy can make a final decision about becoming part of Greg's world, events plunge her right into it. On holiday in the South of France, things start to unravel. Her future stepchildren won't accept her, the interfering nanny resents her, and they're stuck in a heat wave that won't let up. And then there's Greg. His behaviour becomes increasingly bizarre and Lucy begins to wonder whether his larger-than-life personality hides something darker - and whether she knows him at all.

The Accidental Life of Greg Millar was a novel that I read in one day (I was lying on a beach in Samoa). best way to spend one of my six days on holiday."Lucy Arigho’s first encounter with Greg Millar is far from promising, but she soon realises he possesses a charm that is impossible to resist. I feel like this could be a film, I could see the novel while I read it. There were stages I was "pissed" with Lucy and wished she would get over herself. I didn't see where the novel was heading, and really enjoyed this about it.

The Accidental Life of Greg Millar (Audible Audio Edition) Aimee Alexander Alana Kerr Collins Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
This story begins somewhat slowly but builds up in suspense until I could not put it down. I have friends with bipolar diagnoses, and found the story to be realistic - the initial diagnosis coming after a severe manic or depressive episode, changing the person's life forever. Some keep their diagnosis secret because of the public's perception of it, some are open. I think it is realistic that a famous author would come out in the open, rather than wait on edge for someone to "out" him. The only loose thread I wanted to see closed was the fate of Hilary the nanny, but otherwise, this story did not end on any cliffhanger.
The story is set in Ireland and France but you don't need to know anything about the countries' geography, etc. It is told in first-person voice by Lucy. There is minor swearing and a few non-explicit sex scenes, The legal scenes are described briefly and hint at the prejudice faced by bipolar persons.
I do not know how long this book has been in my Library but I finally started reading it yesterday. It was hard to put down. I don't often write reviews since I do not consider myself to be that articulate with the written word but Book touched me on a level that few have. Having seen the effects of Bi-Polar up close, I could identity with the characters and shed a few tears as I read. I honestly wish there were more stars to give. It is a very realistic story and I love the ending. That is all I am saying. Please Read this book.
Lucy and Greg were likeable characters despite their many flaws. I read for escape and admit some books are so predictable and poorly written that I stop reading them. This book, however grabbed me from the first chapter and I read for 3+ hours without stopping because I had to know what happened next. Finally had to go to bed at 1230am so I could function today at work . As soon as I was free today I had to finish it. Mental illness was talked about, not just the effect on the patient, but on the family members. I'm really happy to discover a new - to me - author who writes compelling and compassionate books.
the book has its good parts and not so good parts. It deals with a man who is bipolar and is off the scale....I am bipolar and my moods are controlled by a lot of medicine....there is hope for people with mental illness with the right doctor and the right meds...I will say that I was glad this book brought the subject of mental illness to the surface. But that was not the theme of the book.
This story should be a lesson to all about judging the mentally ill. The medications we have today are so different than even ten years ago and are wonderful and Lithium has been around for quite a few years but I'm sure they have made improvements on even that. I'm sure there are those we see everyday who are on these meds. and we don't even know it. So there shouldn't be judgement. Next time it could be someone very close to you.
This book captivated me from the first page.
Aimee Alexander definitely knows how to hold her audience captive for the length of the novel. She knows her stuff, the medical terminology, and the emotional roller coaster accompanying a situation like this.
The wonder of this book is that there is a hard won HEA at the end of it, one of sorts, like in real life where there is light at the end of the tunnel, but work to be done. Loved the characters!
This health issue being a very personal one for me, I was able to identify the highs of Greg, and the lows, and understand the situation. In real life, this is not a few hundred pages - it is living breathing people going through the trauma, specially the normal person subject to these mood swings and high / low energy roller coaster. It was wonderfully portrayed.
I wished, for the first time, there were more stars to give. Thanks Aimee for a wonderful creation! I got to buy her other books and read them as well - Pause to Rewind, Checkout girl and they are equally captivating.
I had this book in my kindle library for quite a while before starting it last week. Now I'm ready to read Pause To Rewind which is also in my library. I found myself looking forward to picking up where I left off every time I had to stop reading. The mental illness aspect was handled with compassion and I got a glimpse of how an entire family can be affected. I highly recommend it!
